Italy returnee suffering from Covid-19 symptoms dies at Kurmitola hospital

A 45-year-old man, who returned from Italy in November, died at Kurmitola General Hospital in Dhaka after he was admitted with symptoms of coronavirus (Covid-19) infection today.

The deceased was a resident of Sonapur union under Sonaimuri upazila in Noakhali. Upazila administration has locked down the house following the man's death, reports our Noakhali correspondent quoting Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Tina Paul.

A team led by UNO Tina Paul locked down and house and placed a red flag there to curb movement of people in the vicinity of the house around 7:30pm today.

The man fell ill will cold, fever and breathing complications around two weeks before. On Wednesday, his condition deteriorated with high fever and he was admitted to Noakhali 250-bed Hospital, where doctors referred him to Dhaka, said Dr Md Mominur Rahman, civil surgeon of Noakhali.  

He was taken to Dhaka in an ambulance today morning and was admitted to Kurmitola General Hospital where he passed away around 1:00pm, the civil surgeon said.

The body has been kept at the hospital and samples were collected for coronavirus testing, he said.

If the person tests positive then the body would be buried in Dhaka as per WHO guidelines in this regard. If the test comes negative then the body would be handed over to the family, Dr Mominur added.
