Indian buffalo romps into Bangladesh territory, kills woman

7 others injured

A Bangladeshi woman was killed today as an Indian buffalo romped into Bangladeshi territory and attacked villagers in Gourangola village under Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria near the border.

Seven other villagers sustained injuries in the incident this morning, reports our Brahmanbaria correspondent.

The deceased was identified as Safia Begum, 65, is the wife of Muktar Hossain of the village, said Md Lukman Hossain, officer-in-charge of Kasba Police Station.

Identities of the injured persons could not be known immediately. They were admitted to different hospitals in Cumilla for treatment, the OC said.

A buffalo from India entered Bangladeshi territory through Putia border area under the upazila and started attacking the villagers of Gourangola after crossing Putia village, leaving eight persons including Safia injured, the OC said quoting villagers.

The victims were taken to different hospitals in Cumilla. Safia succumbed to her injuries at a hospital this noon, the OC also said.  

Locals later slaughtered the buffalo and distributed the meat among the victims’ families, Mamun Bhauiyan, a local union parishad chairman, told this correspondent.
