India returnee dies in institutional quarantine in Jashore

A returnee from India died in institutional quarantine at a hotel in Jashore today.

The victim Bimal Chandra Dey (60), hailing from Shariatpur, breathed his last at Balaka hotel, situated at Uposhor of the district, our correspondent reports quoting Dr Sheikh Abu Shaheen, civil surgeon of the district.

The civil surgeon also added that the victim was a cancer patient and was at the  last stage of cancer.

According to the information of health department, Bimal was suffering from lung cancer and went to India for treatment.

On May 8, Bimal along with his wife and son entered the country through Benapole land port and was put on 14-day mandatory institutional quarantine at Balaka hotel.

He felt unwell this afternoon and was admitted to a local hospital where he breathed his last.

The body was sent to Shariatpur with police assistance.

Earlier, on May 13, another cancer patient died during institutional quarantine.
