Illegal nets worth Tk 60cr seized

Law enforcers during a drive seized about 2 crore metres of illegal fishing nets worth around Tk 60 crore from Sadar upazila yesterday.

Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer (UFO) Mohammad Tipu Sultan said, acting on a tip-off, a joint team of District Administration, Fisheries Department and Bangladesh Coastguard raided three factories in Gosaibagh area around 3:00am and seized the fishing nets and net making equipment.

However, the offenders managed to flee the scene, the UFO said. The authorities later burnt the seized nets on the bank of Dhaleshwari river.
