Housewife beaten to death by another woman

A woman was beaten to death allegedly by another woman just for cutting a branch of a tree in Parbatipur upazila of the district yesterday.

The deceased was Nur Banu, 40, wife of Abu Taleb of Kushalpur village in the upazila.

Police arrested Sayeda Begum, 40, wife of Abdul Hannan of the same village, in connection with the killing.

Police quoting witnesses said Nur Banu and Sayeda Begum locked in an altercation over cutting a branch of a tree at their locality around 2:00pm.

At one stage, Sayeda Begum started beating Nur Banu mercilessly and later twisted her neck.

As Nur Banu lost her consciousness, locals rescued her and rushed her to the upazila health complex, where she succumbed to her injuries.

A murder case was filed, said Mokhlesur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Parbatipur Police Station.
