Housewife beaten dead

A woman was beaten to death allegedly by her husband and mother-in-law for dowry at Dogasia village in Jashore Sadar upazila on Monday.

The deceased was Poly Khatun, 25, daughter of Siraj Sheikh of Sarapole village in the upazila.

She was mother of two children, said Jeshore Kotwali Model Police Station Sub-Inspector Shamim Akhter.

The victim’s brother Azad Sheikh said Poly married Yunus Ali, 28, son of Siraj Sheikh of the village, 10 years ago.

Yunus and his family members often tortured Poly for dowry and took Tk 7.5 lakh from the victim’s parents.

Yunus also married another woman four months ago, said Azad.

On Monday night, Poly was beaten to death by her husband and mother-in-law following an altercation over dowry, he said.
