“Our national flag is our pride, our identity. We won our red-green national flag sacrificing many lives in the Liberation War,” Pabna Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Jasim Uddin said at a flag festival yesterday.

He was speaking at the programme jointly organised by the district police administration and local welfare organisation Pathshala, at Pabna Police Line Auditorium, highlighting the spirit of the Liberation War.

Pabna Superintendent of Police Sheikh Rafikul Islam chaired the programme where Pabna DC Mohammad Jasim Uddin was present at the chief guest.

Former commander of Pabna Muktijoddha Sangsad Habibur Rahman, Pabna University of Science and Technology Proctor Dr Pretom Kumar, Pabna Chamber of Commerce and Industries Vice President Ali Mortuza Bishwas and Pathshala President Shadhin Mazumder, spoke on the occasion.

“It is our responsibility to honour the national flag appropriately. It is not about hoisting the flag for a day, but to keep the spirit of the Liberation War,” said the speakers.

Marking the Victory Day on December 16, over 1,000 national flags were distributed among the participants of the programme, prior to conclusion of the festival.

Meanwhile, highlighting the spirit of the Liberation War, hundreds of people including government officials, businessmen, cultural activists and other professionals across the district, carrying national flags, brought out a colourful procession that paraded the main streets of the town.
