Govt rice for the poor seized

Police in a drive seized a truck carrying rice meant for open market sale (OMS) and arrested three people, including the driver, in Kalikachha area under Sarail upazila early yesterday.

Tipped off, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) stopped the rice-laden truck when it was heading towards Chunarughat in Habiganj from Zulhas Traders in Nasirnagar upazila headquarters and found 320 sacks of rice meant for open market sale, said BGB 25 Battalion Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Gulam Kabir.

BGB seized the rice and arrested the three people as they did not have any documents.

The arrestees are Shahin Mia, 27, son of Noman Mia of Teliapara in Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj, and Humayun Mia, 37, and Mamun Mia, 24, sons of Shahid Mia of Chhatiyan village in the upazila.

Following the statement of the driver Shahin, police arrested Zulhas Khan, the owner of Zulhas Traders and a dealer of OMS rice.

Nasirnagar Upazila Food Inspector Abu Kawser filed a case with Nasirnagar Police Station in this regard.
