Girl dies by ‘suicide’

A schoolgirl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a tree nearby her house at Indrapasha village in Rajapur upazila of the district on Sunday.

The victim, Sumi Aktar, 14, daughter of Modasser Ali of the village, was a Class IX student at Rajapur Government Girls’ School, Officer in Charge of Rajapur Police Station Jahid Hossain said.

Quoting the deceased’s family members, police said Sumi‘s mother scolded her as she engaged in a quarrel with her elder sister on Sunday night.

Later, family members found her hanging from a tree adjacent to her house the same night and took her to Rajapur Upazila Health Complex, where the doctors declared her dead, victim’s uncle Shamsher Ali said.

Being informed, police recovered the body yesterday and sent it to Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
