Gang rape suspect arrested

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested a youth, one of the alleged rapists of a schoolgirl, from Bus stand area in Sreemangal upazila on Saturday night.

The arrestee is Tofail Mia, 20, son of Abdus Salam of Bagherkhal village in Bahubal upazila of Habiganj.

During primary interrogation, Tofail confessed to raping the seventh grader, said Anwar Hossain Shamim, assistant superintendent of police of Rab-9.

On February 21, Mamun Mia, an auto-rickshaw driver of Putijuri village in Habiganj, took the girl to a hill area beside Brindaban tea garden in Bahubal by an auto-rickshaw and there Mamun, Tofail and their two other friends  raped the girl, said the Rab official.

Three days after the incident, the rape victim filed a case with Bahubal Police Station, accusing five people, he said.
