Fugitive convict arrested after 27yrs

The law enforcers have arrested a fugitive convict in an arms case after 27 years in Mirzapur upazila of Tangail.

Acting on a tip-off, police arrested Abdul Wadud, 52, of Chamari Fotepur village, from Savar Bus Stand area last night in the case filed in 1993, said Mohammad Mozibor Rahman, a sub-inspector of Mirzapur Police Station.

Earlier on February 1993, police arrested Wadud, but later he went into hiding after getting bail from a local court.

In absentia, a Tangail court later sentenced seven years rigorous imprisonment to Wadud in the case filed with the police station under Arms Act.

Today, a court in Tangail sent Wadud to jail after police produced him before the court, the police official told our Tangail correspondent.
