A freight train from Chattogram today was derailed at Baghmara Rail Crossing area in Mymensingh, disrupting rail communication of the district with Netrokona and Kishoreganj.

The incident took place at around 9:00am this morning when four compartments of the train carrying rice were derailed, reports our Mymensingh correspondent quoting Md Johirul Islam, station superintendent of Mymensingh Railway Station.

Following the incident, rail communication of Mymensingh with Jaria and Mohanganj in Netrakona and with Bhairab in Kishoreganj remained suspended for over 11 hours, the station superintendent said.

Five Mymensingh-bound passenger trains from Netrakona and Kishoreganj were stranded at different stations, causing sufferings to hundreds of passengers, the official also said.

A rescue team has already begun its operation but rail communication on the routes is yet to be restored till filing of this report at around 8:00pm.
