Four get life term for murder

A court here yesterday sentenced four people to life term imprisonment for killing a man in 1999.

The convicts are Noab Ali,52, and Kacha Mia, 49,  of Khasila village in Jagannathpur upazila, and Bacha Mia, 53, and Fatik Mia, 56, of Hayderpur village in Chhatak upazila. Kacha Mia and Fatik Miah were tried in absentia.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun also fined the four Tk 50,000 each, in default, they are to suffer another three months in jail.

According to the prosecution, on November 16 in 1999, Noab, Kacha, Bacha and Fatik entered the house of Tarif Mia at Khasila village in Jagannathpur upazila and attacked him. Critically injured Tarif then died on way to a hospital.

Later, the victim's family filed a case with Jagannathpur Police Station in this regard.

After examining witnesses and evidence, the judge found the four guilty and pronounced the verdict.
