Four children drown in ponds
The victims include twins, two cousins in two Dinajpur UZs
Four children died in separate drowning incidents in Birganj and Parbatipur upazilas of Dinajpur on Monday.
In Sonka village of Birganj, two twin brothers, aged two, went to play outside in the afternoon and slipped into a pond next to their house.
Locals rescued the infants -- Hassan and Hussain -- and rushed them to Birganj Upazila Health Complex, where doctors pronounced both of them dead, said family members.
Birganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shakila Parvin confirmed the incident.
The same afternoon, in Bramtar Sonapukur village of Parbatipur upazila, two cousins drowned in a pond where they had gone to bathe. They both were five years of age.
According to the family members, they along with villagers organised a search party after the two -- Sabbir Hossain, son of Rabiul Islam; and Mohammad Hanifullah, son of Moksedul Islam -- did not return home for a long time since they went out for bathing.
Around 4:30pm, bodies of the young boys were found in a nearby pond, they said.
