Former Cumilla-9 lawmaker ATM Alamgir dies with Covid-19

Former lawmaker and Jatiya Party leader ATM Alamgir died on Monday at Green Life Hospital in Dhaka while undergoing treatment after being diagnosed with Covid-19. He was 70.

He was admitted to the hospital as his condition deteriorated after he tested positive for coronavirus, his younger brother Kamal Hossain Bulu confirmed to The Daily Star.

ATM Alamgir was elected MP from BNP in Cumilla-9 constituency (Laksham-Manoharganj) during the 1991-96 parliament. He joined JP ahead of the 11th National Election in 2018 and contested from Cumilla-9 constituency with JP's symbol.

ATM Alamgir, also a freedom fighter and a Supreme Court lawyer, will be buried at his residence in Manoharganj upazila of Cumilla on Tuesday morning at 10:00am, his brother said.
