Former Bogura AL MP Kamrun Nahar found Covid-19 positive after death

3 family members also test positive for the virus

Kamrun Nahar Putul, a former Awami League lawmaker of the Bogura-Joypurhat reserved seat for women, tested Covid-19 positive today following her death at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura last night.

"Her samples were collected on last Tuesday and tested at the RT-PCR lab of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital. The test report came positive today," said Mostafizur Rahman, deputy civil surgeon of Bogura.

"Three of her family members also tested positive for Covid-19," Mostafizur Rahman also said, adding that the patients would receive treatment staying in home isolation.

A total 24 people tested positive from 188 samples tested in the district today, he added.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today expressed her condolence for Putul's death.

Putul, 65, breathed her last at the hospital around 11:15pm yesterday night, hours after she was admitted there with Covid-19 symptoms including fever and diarrhoea, our correspondent reported quoting Dr Samir Hossain Mishu, health and family planning officer of Bogura Sadar upazila.

Putul returned to Bogura from Dhaka 10 to 12 days back, Dr Samir said.

"Her samples were collected, sent to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for coronavirus test and the result of the test was supposed to come today. But before the test result, she became unwell last night and was admitted to the hospital," added Dr Samir.

She was buried today at the Namazgar graveyard as per WHO guidelines. Quantum Foundation completed her namaz-e-janaza and her burial, Dr Samir added.

Kamrun Nahar Putul, wife of late Awami League lawmaker Mustafizur Rahman, was elected as AL lawmaker of Bogura-Joypurhat from reserved seat for women in 1996 while her husband Mustafizur Rahman was elected as a member of the parliament in 1973 from the party.

She left behind a son, two daughters and host of well-wishers to mourn her death.
