Five JMB men jailed for 15 years

A court here on Wednesday sentenced five members of banned Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) to 15 years of imprisonment in a case for planning to conduct subversive activities.

The convicts are Saidur Rahman, 40, and Akkas Ali, 38, of Mymensingh's Muktagacha upazila, Saidul Mia, 48, Mohammad Rokunzzaman, 31, and Azizul Haque, 50, of Jamalpur Sadar upazila.

According to the case statement, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) raided one of the convicts Azizul's house on July 15 in 2009 and arrested Saidur and Akkas with iron pipes, bottles, some explosive materials and books on Jihad. According to their confessional statement, the other three convicts were arrested later, he said.
