Five get life term for murder

A Mymensingh court yesterday sentenced five people including three brothers to life term imprisonment for killing a farmer in Gouripur upazila of Mymensingh in 2002.

The convicts are Ruhul Amin, 57, Nurul Hoque, 55, and Munjurul Hoque, 52, sons of late Abdus Samad, Kala Chand, 55, son of Khorshed Alam, and Nabi Hossain, 55, son of Nasir Uddin of Tenguripara village in Gouripur.

The court also fined the convicts Tk 10,000 each, in default to suffer one month more in jail.

Second Additional District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Nurul Alam Biplob pronounced the verdict in presence of the convicts, said Sheikh Kabirul Islam, court inspector in Mymensingh.

According to the case statement, following an altercation over a land dispute on November 17 in 2002, the convicts beat Alauddin, leaving him critically injured.

He was rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Alauddin’s elder brother Nurul Amin lodged a case against 11 people with Gouripur Police Station and later police pressed charge sheet accusing nine people on July 23 in 2007.

Four other accused were acquitted, said the court inspector.
