A fishing cat of an endangered species was crushed to death under the wheels of an upazila chairman's vehicle in Chakaria area under Cox's Bazar early Wednesday.

Md Ziaur Rahman, the driver of Bandarban's Lama upazila chairman's car, posted the photo of the dead cat in his Facebook account on Wednesday.

Ziaur said the cat died on the spot after it was crushed by the car while he was going to Chakaria from Lama to receive the chairman, who was coming from Dhaka.

Fishing cats live mostly in the vicinity of wetlands, along rivers and streams, oxbow lakes and swamps. They are native to South and Southeast Asia.
