Father kills daughter
He killed the nine-month-old child as his wife did not give birth to a son
A man allegedly killed his daughter as his wife did not give birth to a son at Mukundagati village in Sirajganj’s Belkuchi upazila early Friday.
The deceased was nine-month-old Sumayia Khatun, daughter of Md Bodiuzzaman of the village.
Accused Bodiuzzaman, a day labourer, went into hiding soon after the incident, said Md Anwarul Islam, officer-in-charge of Belkuchi Police Station.
The victim’s mother Sundari Khatun filed a case, accusing Bodiuzzaman, said the OC.
According to the case statement, Bodiuzzaman continued pressuring Sundari for a baby boy after she gave birth to a baby girl, who is now two-year-old.
The couple often engaged in altercation since Sunduri gave birth to a baby girl for second time. Bodiuzzaman also threatened to kill Sumayia several times.
“My husband threw Sumayia to the floor and then kicked her in the chest when she was sleeping with her. She died on the spot. Bodiuzzaman later dumped the body in a pond near their house.” said Sundari.
On information, police recovered the body from the pond and sent it to Sirajganj General Hospital for autopsy, said the police official.
Bodiuzzaman’s brutality is beyond imagination and he must be brought to book, said locals.
Police were raiding different areas to arrest Bodiuzzaman, said the OC.
