Father of 4 held for rape attempt

A man was arrested on charge of attempting to rape a girl in Juri upazila of the district on Tuesday.
The arrestee is Helal uddin, 45, son of Moin Uddin of Kochurgul village in the upazila.
The girl, an SSC candidate of a local school, is known to the accused, father of four sons.
Shahab Uddin, chairman of Goalbari Union Parishad (UP), said the girl was going to school in the hill area near Helal's house.
At that time, Helal called the girl and took her to his house. His family members were outside the house during the time.
Helal tried to rape the girl. Hearing screams, locals rushed to the spot, rescued the girl and caught the accused but he managed to flee the scene after a while.
The girl sustained injuries during the incident and is now undergoing treatment at the upazila health complex, said the chairman.
In the evening, police, on information, arrested Helal with the help of the UP chairman.
