Fake medicines seized, two jailed

Law enforcers seized 20 types of fake medicines worth Tk 30 lakh from a fake medicine factory and an unapproved godown in Sultanganjpara and Thanthania areas of Bugura town on Saturday night.

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested Kalpana Begum, 40, of Sultanganjpara of the town, and Md Shahaduzzaman, 35, of Thanthania of the town, on charge of making and storing the fake medicines, said Major SM Morshed Hasan, company commander of Rab-12.

A mobile court led by Magistrate Abdur Rahman sentenced Kalpana Begum to four months’ imprisonment and fined her Tk 40,000 for making fake medicines.

Shahaduzzaman was sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment and fined Tk 40,000 for storing and selling fake medicines, said the magistrate.
