People will lose faith on the justice system if the government cannot set clear examples, Transparency International Bangladesh said today.

“The government can set an example by ensuring justice to the murder of Nusrat. If it fails, people will lose trust in rule of law and the judiciary,” said Ifterkharuzzaman, TIB's executive director.

Terming the incident of Nusrat Jahan Rafi murder an “acid test” for the government Iftekharuzzaman said ensuring justice is only the way to prove that the rule of law prevails in Bangladesh.

He was speaking at a human chain held at Dhaka University's Teacher-Student Centre (TSC), demanding exemplary punishment of those involved in the killing of the Feni madrasa student.

“The law enforcement agencies and the local administration are behind this murder. The mass media have portrayed how the local administration, local law enforcers and local judicial authorities were involved in the crime and patronised it,” he added.

Nusrat Jahan Rafi was set on fire after she protested an incident of sexual assault on her.
