Elephants kill one

A speech-impaired woman was trampled to death in an attack by a herd of wild elephants in Lama upazila early yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Baby Aktar, 26, a resident of remote Amtolipara area in the upazila, police said.

Officer in Charge of Lama Police Station Mizanur Rahman said a herd of wild elephants came down from the nearby forest in search of food in early hours of yesterday.

At one stage, the elephants broke into the thatched house of Baby and trampled her to death around 2:00am, the OC added.
