Elderly woman stabbed dead

An elderly woman was stabbed dead and her daughter seriously injured in an attack by criminals at Isabpur village in Nabiganj upazila of Habiganj yesterday.

The deceased was Neelu Sutradhar, 60, of the village.

Quoting locals, police said Neelu used to live with her daughter-in-law Happy at the house.

Recently, Happy went to his father's house and Neelu's daughter Shilpi Sutradhar came to her mother's house from her in-laws' house in Madhabpur upazila for giving her accompany.

Early yesterday, a gang swooped on the house and stabbed Neelu and Shilpi indiscriminately, leaving Neelu dead on the spot.

Injured Shilpi is now under treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, said Pervez Alam Chowhdury, assistant superintendent of police.
