Elderly woman assaulted by son

A 65-year-old woman, beaten allegedly by one of her sons over family feud on Saturday, is now undergoing treatment at Habiganj Sadar Hospital with severe injuries.

During a visit to the hospital this correspondent saw marks of injuries in different parts of Rabeya Khatun's body and she can barely keeps her eyes open.

Rabeya's younger son Afzal Mia of Nurpur village in Habiganj's Shayestaganj upazila said his elder brother Jahangir Alam locked in an altercation with their mother over making a heap of paddy straw in the courtyard on Saturday evening.

At one stage, Jahangir mercilessly beat Rabeya with a stick until she fainted, and fled the scene, Afzal said, adding that neighbours rescued his mother and admitted her to Habiganj Sadar Hospital.

Officer-in-Charge of Shayestaganj Police Station Anisur Rahman said a case was filed with the police station against Jahangir yesterday.
