Hundreds of Eid holidaymakers are waiting in line to cross the Shimulia-Kathalbari ferry ghat due to heavy pressure of vehicles with only two days left for Eid-ul-Azha.

Nearly 350 private cars and around 50 trucks were seen standing at the ferry ghat when the report was filed around 9:30am.

However, there are no buses waiting at ferry ghat, reports our Munshinganj correspondent.

“The pressure of vehicles was very high in the morning but has reduced as the day progressed,” the correspondent quoted Assistant General Manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Md Naseer Uddin as saying.

Passengers are using 17 ferries, 88 launches and around 300 speedboats to cross the Padma river.

Meanwhile, the BIWTC official said that owing to lower current in the Padma river people are being able to cross the Padma much quicker.
