Early marriage bid foiled

A class nine student was saved from child marriage at Majardia village under Saltha upazila in the district yesterday.

The girl, 14, daughter of Faruk Mollah of the village, is a student of a local madrasa. 

“On information that the girl's marriage was arranged with Kobir Hossain, 22, son of Nurul Mollah of the same village, I along with police rushed to the spot. I stopped the marriage and fined Kobir Hossain and Faruk Mollah Tk 10,000 each after conducting a mobile court there,” said Maksudul Islam, upazila nirbahi officer of Saltha.
