Drug peddler killed in Dhaka gunfight: Rab

An alleged drug peddler was killed in a "shootout" with Rapid Action Battalion in Dhaka's Agargaon area this morning.

The deceased -- Kabir, 45, from Shreepur upazila of Gazipur -- was accused in at least 13 cases including drugs filed with different police stations, said Mohammed Mohiduddin Faruqe, a company commander of Rab-2.

The Rab official said the elite force members signalled Kabir to stop his motorcycle at a check-post set up in Agargaon Link Road area around 5:30am.

But Kabir opened fire at them, forcing the law enforcers to retaliated, Mohiduddin Faruqe said.

Kabir was hit by bullets during the exchange of fire and was rushed to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Rab claimed to have recovered a firearm, some bullets and 30,000 pieces of yaba from the spot.

Two Rab men were injured during the "shootout", Rab claimed.
