Drug peddler jailed for 10 yrs in Patuakhali

A court here yesterday sentenced a drug peddler to 10 years’ imprisonment.

The convict is Md Rubel, 30, of Natunbazar area in Patuakhali town. He was tried in absentia.

Special Sessions Judge Abu Naser Md Jahangir Alom also fined him Tk 10,000. In default, he is to suffer another 10 months in jail.

According to the prosecution, a team of Rab-8 arrested Rubel with 35 Yaba tablets from the area on April 6 in 2016 and handed him over to police.

A Rab member then filed a case with Sadar Police Station in this regard.

Rubel was later released on bail and went into hiding.

Shusen, Sub Inspector of the police station, submitted a charge sheet against Rubel on May 4 the same year.

After examining witnesses and evidences, the judge found Rubel guilty and pronounced the verdict.
