Domestic air-connectivity between the capital and beach town Cox's Bazar will be restored on Thursday after more than four months of suspension due to coronavirus pandemic.

The Civil Aviation Authority, Bangladesh (CAAB) has decided to resume flights to Cox's Bazar, the country's most popular tourist destination as the district civil surgeon office has necessary arrangements to monitor hygiene and ensure social distancing at the airport, CAAB spokesperson told BSS.

With the reopening of flights to Cox's Bazar, full internal air connectivity will be restored as the government has already started flights to the other six destinations — Chattogram, Sylhet, Saidpur, Jashore, Barishal and Rajshahi.

On June 1, the government first resumed the air connectivity on three routes – Chattogram, Sylhet and Saidpur to and from the capital after more than two-months closure amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Flight operations to Jashore, Barisal and Rajshahi resumed on June 11, July 12 and 21 respectively.

According to CAAB guideline, airlines are operating flights with at least 30 percent seats vacant on each flight to ensure social distancing with a gap of one seat between two passengers if they are not from the same family.
