Dept of Environment demolishes 3 brick kilns in Ctg

The Department of Environment (DoE) today demolished three brick kilns for illegally operating in Chattogram's Lohagara upazila.

The DoE of Chattogram region demolished Petanshah Brick, Khawaza Brick and Baro Awlia Brick kilns in line with an earlier High Court direction.

The brick kilns had been running for a decade without any clearance certificate from DoE or approval from district administration, said Mohammad Moazzom Hossain, director of DoE Chattogram region.

On December 14, the High Court directed DoE and Chattogram district administration to take necessary steps to demolish all illegal brick kilns within their territory.

"Today we demolished three kilns as of now. We have plan to demolish another kiln," Mohammad Moazzom Hossain said adding that they launched the demolition campaign last week following the High Court directive.
