Cyclone ‘Bulbul’: Rain begins in coastal areas

Cyclone “Bulbul” has triggered rainfall in the coastal areas of Bagerhat and Khulna as the cyclonic storm over the Bay is heading towards Bangladesh.

It started raining in several upazilas of the two districts around 9:30am, reports our local correspondents.

In Bagerhat, district administration had an emergency meeting to make plans to combat the cyclonic storm.

After the meeting, the district’s Deputy Commissioner Mamunur Rashid said all the government employees have been asked to remain vigilant.

“We have taken all preparations to tackle the aftermaths of the storm,” he added.

In Khulna, 338 government and non-government cyclone centres have been prepared for the giving shelter to the effected people.

Control rooms were also set-up in nine upazilas and Khulna town, our district correspondent reports quoting Azizul Haque Joarder, district relief and rehabilitation officer.

Khulna district administration also called an emergency meeting of district disaster management committee in the afternoon. They have also kept prepared 24,060 Cyclone Preparedness Programme (CPP) volunteers in Dakop and Koyra upazilas, the official added.

Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist local warning signal number four, according to UNB.

All fishing boats and trawlers over the Bay have been advised to remain near the coast and not go to deep sea until further notice.
