Cox’s Bazar airport gets new passenger departure lounge

The newly built passenger departure lounge was opened today at the airport of beach town Cox's Bazar to give more comfort to local and international tourists.

"We have built the new passenger lounge for providing more comfort and facilities to air travelers, especially for tourists," state minister for civil aviation and tourism M Mahbub Ali said while inaugurating the lounge.

As per Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's instruction, Ali said the government has taken the initiative to turn the Cox's Bazar airport into an international standard one to make the country's most exciting tourism destination as a regional aviation hub to give a boost to the country's travel and leisure industry.

The government is upgrading the Cox's Bazar airport at a cost of Taka 5,179 crore that include construction of new terminal building, increasing the width of runway from 9,000 feet to 12,000 feet and setting up airfield ground lighting system.

The state minister expected that Cox's Bazar would become a popular destination for tourists of India, Nepal and Bhutan after upgrading the domestic airport to an international one.
