Couple die as train hits them at level crossing

A member of Ansar and his wife were killed yesterday as a train hit their motorbike at a unmanned level crossing at Zaherganj in Parbatipur upazila.

The deceased were identified as Mokhsedul Islam, 35, and his wife Tahura Begum, 32, of Shreerampur village under the upazila.

Mokhsedul, a member of Bangladesh Ansar, was posted at Thakurgaon Sugar Mills. He came home on leave recently.

Parbatipur Government Railway Police (GRP) Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Arifur Rahman said the incident occurred when the deceased were returning home from Parbatipur town on a motorcycle.

They were hit by the Titumeer Express on Chilahati-Rajshahi route as they got on the unmanned level crossing at Zaherganj in the upazila, the OC said.

They died on the spot, he added.

Police of Parbatipur GRP recovered the bodies.
