College girl killed in boiler blast

A college girl was killed and two others were injured as a boiler of a rice mill exploded at Pashchimpara in Sadullapur upazila yesterday.

The deceased was Sharmin Khatun, 17, daughter of Shafiqul Islam of the village, and a second year student of Joyenpur Adrasha College.

Injured Ful Mia, 23, and Uzzal Mia, 30, labourers of the rice mill, were rushed to the upazila health complex.

Police and locals said Sharmin went to a nearby tube-well for washing her clothes. The boiler of a rice mill of one Ali Hasan was very close to the tube-well.

All of a sudden, the boiler exploded due to overheating, leaving the trio injured, said Borhanuddin, officer-in-charge of Sadullapur Police Station.

Critically injured Sharmin later died on way to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, said the OC.
