Collapse of under-construction bridge in Sunamganj: probe committee formed to identify reason

Road Transport and Highway Division today formed a four-member probe committee to identify the reason behind the collapse of an under-construction bridge in Sunamganj on Sunday and those responsible for it.

Led by Zakir Hossain, additional secretary (planning wing) of the division, the committee was asked to submit their report within five working days. The division today issued a circular in this regard.

Five girders of an under-construction bridge at Kundanala under Jagannathpur upazila of the district collapsed on Sunday.

This is one of seven bridges being constructed under a project of Roads and Highways Department (RHD).

The probe committee was asked to find whether the construction work was going on following the specification, necessary cautionary measures were taken, monitoring was done properly, deadline was maintained and relevant guidelines were followed.
