Case sent to District Judge’s Court for trial

Police submitted charge sheet in the case against 24 people, next proceeding November 20

  • Trial of 14 underage accused will be held at Barguna Juvenile Court

 

Barguna Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court yesterday sent Rifat Sharif murder case to the District and Sessions Judge’s Court for trial.

The court also fixed November 20 for next proceeding of the case, said Advocate M Mojibul Haque Kislu, lawyer of the plaintiff.

Earlier on October 31, the Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court of Md Sirajul Islam Gazi sent the case docket to Barguna Juvenile Court for starting trial of 14 underage accused in the case.

“Now trial of all the 10 adult accused will be held at Barguna District and Sessions Judge’s Court while trial of all the 14 underage accused will be held at Barguna Juvenile Court,” the lawyer said.

Meanwhile, Md Hafizur Rahman, judge of Barguna Juvenile Court, yesterday cancelled the bail of underage accused Arian Shrabon and sent him to Jashore Juvenile Correction Centre where 13 other underage accused in the same case are also staying.

Of the adult accused, eight are in Barguna jail, Aysha Siddika Minni is in bail while another accused Musa is still absconding.

Rifat Sharif, 25, was hacked to death on June 6 in front of Barguna Government College and its video went viral through Facebook.

Rifat’s father Abdul Halim Sharif Dulal filed a murder case accusing 12 people with Barguna Police Station on the same day.

Police on September 1 submitted charge sheet in the case to Barguna Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court against 24 people.

Rifat’s wife Aysha Siddika Minni was the only eyewitness in the case but 18 days after the incident, Rifat’s father claimed at a press conference that Minni had involvement in the murder.

Then police took Minni to Barguna Police Lines in the name of interrogation and showed her arrested in the case on the same day.

So far, 15 accused gave confessional statement to the court in the case.

Meanwhile, the Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court gave permission to Kamrul Hasan Saimun, one of the murder case accused, for taking part in his degree (honours) examinations and asked the authorities concerned to take necessary steps in this regard, said Advocate Kislu.
