CAB terms proposed bus fare hike ‘unacceptable’

Terming the proposed bus fare hike "unacceptable", Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) today in press statement said it is not a considerate decision, and urged the government to stop the move.

The statement signed by CAB's President Golam Rahman said, charging passengers higher fare to minimise the losses of transport owners due to the shutdown "is not acceptable".

It also stated that the government can announce a stimulus package -- as it has done for other sectors -- or give subsidy or low-interest loans for the transport sector so that owners do not face losses for carrying limited number of passengers.

It also said oil prices came down globally and if the government adjusts oil price, it wound not need to hike bus fare, rather it may create scope for reducing it.
