Law enforcers today detained a youth from Govt Ananda Mohan College campus in Mymensingh as he entered the college clad in a burqa, an attire worn by Muslim women.

“The youth Mahmudul Hasan, 28, married Julekha Khatun, 25, two years ago, a culmination of their seven-year-long love affair. Things were going alright, but a phone call from an unknown caller made the whole course awry. Mahmudul started suspecting his wife,” police said as the detainee claiming.

The couple used to lock into altercations very often and they engaged in a feud last night, said Shah Kamal Akanda, officer-in-charge of Detective Branch (DB) of Mymensingh district police.

To see what Julekha actually does on the college campus, to satisfy his qualms, Mahmudul entered the college campus clad in burqa, which he bought after dropping Julekha at the college gate, the police official said quoting the detainee.

They came to Mymensingh from Jamalpur, where he works as a clerk at a private college, by a train as Julekha was to appear at the viva-voce of her honours examination today.

As he was roaming the campus posing as woman, his uncanny movements made the college authorities suspicious. They challenged Mahmudul, purportedly a woman, and discovered a 28-year-old bearded man inside, the OC recounted.

On information, a team of detectives rushed to the spot and detained him. However, Julekha denied having any sort of relationship with him, said the OC.

Both Mahmudul, who hailed from Sherpur, and Julekha were taken to police custody and being interrogated till filing this report at 7:40pm, according to the lawman.

"We are verifying their own versions of the incident and their families have been informed," the OC added.

The college's Vice-principal Md Nurul Afsar affirmed the incident.
