Locals demand after 10 injured in Sunday’s attack on a Hindu family

Locals have demanded early action against the perpetrators involved in Sunday’s attack on a Hindu family at Thakurer Hat in Betagi Sankipur union under Dashmina upazila.

Meanwhile, four-year-old Kotha Rani, one of the 10 injured in the attack, was sent to Barishal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital yesterday morning.

Earlier on Sunday night, three victims of the attack were admitted to the same hospital while six others including Khitish Majumder, 60, are undergoing treatment at Dashmina Upazila Health Complex.

“The gang made the attack to occupy Khitish Majumder’s shop with 10 decimals of land at Thakurer Hat on Patuakhali-Dashmina road. Locals Hindus are worried after the attack,” said Poshari Rani, a community leader, also member of Betagi-Sankipur union parishad.

Police arrested Alam Mridha, 30, and Zahidul Islam, 25, of Adampura village in Dashmina for their alleged involvement in the attack while alleged gang leaders Jubo League men Jahir and Iraq went into hiding.

Contacted, Dashmina upazila Jubo League president Nasir Uddin Pahloan, also vice president of Dashmina upazila parishad, claimed that Jahir and Iraq are not involved with the party.

Additional Superintendent of Police Md Mahfuzur Rahman visited the spot yesterday morning and assured local Hindus of adequate security measures.

SM Jalal Uddin, OC of Dashmina Police Station said, “We are trying our best to arrest all the attackers. Policemen have been deployed on the spot.”
