Bogura rickshaw puller sets example of honesty

A Bogura rickshaw puller set an example of honesty by returning Tk 18.50 lakh to its owner after finding the money in a bag on his rickshaw this morning.

Owner, Rajib Prasad, left the bag full of the money unconsciously when rickshaw puller Lal Mia was dropping him off in Satmatha area of Bogura town, reports our Bogura correspondent.

Lal Mia said he picked Rajib from Jaleswari Tola area of the town along with three bags around 7:00am and after some while, he got off the rickshaw at Satmatha hurriedly, leaving one of his bags behind.

After sometimes, Lal Mia noticed it and started searching the passenger but failed, the rickshaw puller told our correspondent.

At one stage, the puller opened the bag and found a huge amount of money in the bag.

Fearing to be robbed the money, Lal Mia went his home with bag and kept it under his possession safely.

Later, he returned to Satmatha area and started looking for the owner of the bag.

When Rajib was heading towards Rajshahi by a bus, he noticed that his bag went missing and lodged a general dairy with Bogura Sadar Police Station immediately.

SM Bodiuzzaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station said they starting searching the rickshaw puller based on CCTV footages in the area.  

After searching for a while, the police found Lal Mia while he was also looking for the owner for returning the money.

After getting back the money, Rajib expressed his gratitude to Lal Mia and offered him Tk 50 thousand for his self-solvency.

In response, Lal Mia said he drives a rented rickshaw at present and has to pay Tk 200 every day to its owner.

“I am very happy as I have become able to return the money to its owner,” he said rejecting the offer.

Bogura Superintendent of Police Ali Ashraf Bhuiyan said, “Truly speaking, the Rickshaw puller is very honest and we found no ill motive in him. It is a praiseworthy honesty and indeed an inspiring example.”

Md Lal Mia is a son of late Momotaj Uddin, resident of Malgram Uttarpara area of the Bogura sadar upazila.
