BGB seizes car with arms, Phensedyl

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) claimed to have thwarted delivery of a consignment of 815 bottles of Phensedyl, 50 yaba pills and seized firearms and ammunition in a car deserted by smugglers in a bordering village of the district yesterday.

Tipped off, a BGB team took position in Chhiattarbighi village under Shibganj upazila. Around 1:00am yesterday, the team challenged a car that drove 500 yards into Bangladesh territory from India, said Lt Col S M Salahuddin, commanding officer (CO) of BGB 59 Battalion.

Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the smugglers fired shots at the BGB men and BGB also returned fire in defence. At one point the smugglers left the vehicle and fled into India after the vehicle caught fire.

After searching the car, BGB seized two shutter guns, three pistols, six magazines, eighteen bullets and the contraband items, the CO added.
