Embezzling Mobile Court Money

Bench clerk, his wife jailed

A Faridpur court yesterday sentenced a bench clerk of a mobile court of Shariatpur Deputy Commissioner's office to 28 years imprisonment and his wife, also a clerk at the same office, to eight years.

The court gave the verdict in a case taken over by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) over misappropriating of about Tk 89,94,024 realised by the mobile court as fine.

Judge Md Motiur Rahman of Special Judge's Court in Faridpur delivered the verdict against Md Imam Uddin ,45, a clerk at general management department of the DC's office and also a bench clerk of the mobile court, and his wife Kamla Akter, 38, also a clerk of the department, said ACC lawyer Majibar Rahman.

“The court fined Imam the amount that he embezzled, in default, to serve seven months and 15 days more in jail and Kamla Tk 20,000, in default, to serve one month and 15 days more,” Majibar added.

“Imam embezzled Tk 89, 94,024 with the help of his wife Kamla”.

The then Assistant Commissioner and Magistrate Jiniya Jinnat of Shariatpur Deputy Commissioner's office lodged a case with Palong Police Station accusing Imam and his wife Kamla in June 18, 2015,” Majibar said.
