BCL leader held for assaulting journo in Ashulia

Police detained a local Chhatra League leader today for allegedly assaulting a journalist in Ashulia, on the outskirts area of Dhaka.

A team of Ashulia Police Station detained Shamiul Alam Shamim from Ashulia’s Kurgaon area this afternoon soon after the victim brought allegation against him, said Nahid Hassan, sub-inspector of the police Station.

According to the allegation, Shamim, president of BCL’s Ashulia unit, along with his 20 to 25 men beat Abdullah Al Wahid, Savar correspondent of private television channel My TV, when he went to Kurgaon around 11:30am for covering a report on land grabbing, said the SI.

They also attacked Obaidul Islam, president of Dhaka district Muktijoddha Projonmo League, he added.

The process of filing a case is underway.
