BCL leader among 6 Bhasani university students suspended

The administration of Mawlana Bhasani Science and Technology University in Tangail on Sunday suspended a university unit leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and five other students for torturing three students of the institution.

Proctor Sirajul Islam of the university also served show cause notices asking the students why their enrollment  would not be cancelled permanently, campus sources said.  

Moreover, ban was imposed on their entry to the campus and adjacent areas and also on their academic activities.

The suspended students are Sayem Ali Suny, organising secretary of BCL, university unit, and forth year second semester student of the institution, and second year first semester students SM Rasedul Islam, Jillur Rahman, Abu Hena Mostofa Kamal, Mohammad Atikuzzaman and Anindya Roy.

Centring a trifling matter, the six mercilessly beat up three students of Bio-chemistry and Molecular Science Department at the university on Friday night after calling them at Jananeta Abdul Mannan Hall. 

Following the incident, students of the department agitated in front of the administrative building at the campus on Sunday, demanding life term suspension of the six students.

The action was taken against the six students in an urgent meeting comprising proctor, assistant proctors, all deans, provosts and chairman of Bio-chemistry and Molecular Science Department, said Prof Sirajul Islam, proctor of the university.

Their punishment will be reduced or increased after getting their replies of the show cause notice in seven days, he said.
