Baufal double murder: Case filed against local AL leader, 74 others

A case has been filed against 75 people, including an Awami League leader, in connection with the double murder that took place last Sunday at Keshabpur union in Patuakhali's Baufal upazila.

Keshabpur Union Unit Awami League General Secretary and also Chairman of the Union Parishad Mohiuddin Lablu was named as the prime accused, according to the case documents. Among the other 74 accused, 58 were also named.

Earlier on Sunday night, Rakib Uddin Rumon Talukder, 33, vice president of Keshabpur unit Juba League (JL) and Riyad Hossain Ishat, a member of the Union Swechchhasebak League, were killed in a factional clash.

Mofiz Uddin Mintu, brother of slain JL leader Rumon, filed the case this afternoon with Baufal Police Station, Al Mamun, officer-in-charge (OC) of the station, told The Daily Star.

Police have arrested 11 persons so far, the OC said, adding that the arrestees were sent to jail after being produced before Baufal Judicial Magistrate's court this afternoon.

The Daily Star could not reach the prime accused Mohiuddin for comments despite repeated attempts.

Meanwhile, police have formed a three-member probe committee making Abdul Mukit, additional superintendent of police (Sadar circle) as its head, said Mainul Islam, superintendent of Patuakhali district police.

The committee was asked to submit its report within the next three working days, added the SP.
