Barishal-Muladi road communications snapped

Communications between Barishal and Muladi upazilas ground to a halt yesterday morning when a truck, loaded with electric poles, fell in the Arial Kha river after damaging the pontoon of a ferry dock in Mirganj area.  

The incident took place around 8:30am, said locals.

Rafiqul Islam, the supervisor of the dock, said they were working on placing a new pontoon on a diverted ramp.

An enormous snarl-up of was seen while visiting the area.

Masud Khan, executive engineer of Roads and Highways in Barishal, said they would try to create the diverted ramp before nightfall yesterday.

The accident took place as the truck was overloaded with at least 30 electric poles, as opposed to the standard load of 15 for such vehicle, he also said.
