Barguna transport workers go on indefinite strike protesting attack on leader

Transport workers in Barguna went on an indefinite strike on all routes in the district since this morning, protesting attack on Barguna Minibus Workers Union general secretary Imam Hasan.

Due to the strike, no passenger buses left the district bus terminal this morning, our Patuakhali correspondent reports, quoting the transport leaders and workers.

The transport leaders and workers also brought out a procession in the district bus terminal around 11:00am, protesting the attack and demanding immediate arrest of the attackers, said Sahabuddin Sabu, president of the workers union.

The miscreants attacked Imam Hasan, also chairman of Sarisamuri Union Parishad in Betagi upazila and joint general secretary of Barguna unit of Jubo League, in Kalikabari area yesterday noon, said Sahabuddin Sabu.

Imam was first taken to Barishal Sher-e Bangla Medical college Hospital with injuries and later shifted to National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) in Dhaka, he said.

Kazi Shakhawat Hossain, officer-in-charge of Betagi Police Station, said they are trying to arrest the people involved with the attack. However, no case was filed in this regard till this noon.
