Bangladeshi shot dead inside Indian territory near Sylhet

A Bangladeshi citizen was "shot dead" and another injured inside Indian territory near the Gowainghat border in Sylhet.

The deceased, Md Siraj Miah (45), was from Domdomia village of Sylhet's Gowainghat, while injured Md Nazim Uddin (38), of the same village, is on the run.

The incident occurred around 4:30pm today when four Bangladeshis entered Indian territory to steal pineapples from an Indian Khasi village, said Lt Col Ahmed Yusuf Jamil, commanding officer of 48-BGB Battalion in Sylhet.

"Around 4:00pm, four Bangladeshis entered Indian territory and Khasi citizens of the village fired at them with local firearms, which left one person dead one other injured," Lt Col Ahmed Yusuf Jamil said.

"The body was recovered and sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for autopsy. The injured has been on the run after returning to Bangladesh," he added.
